Born and raised in Brazil, he moved to Montreal in 2009 with a degree in graphic design to pursue opportunities in web design and development. Soon enough, he decided to revisit his passion for sustainable environmental development and soon enrolled in environmental studies back in his hometown of Recife. Once completed he returned to Montreal and finalized his training with a masters in biodiversity at l’Université de Montréal.
During his time on Recife, Leo was lucky enough to work on environmental public education programs with organizations including Greenpeace and PLAN International.
Further, over a period of a few months in 2012 while working on his masters at l’Université de Montréal, Leo participated in a community project incorporating ecotourism in the region of Manaus (Brazil) with a non-profit called IPE. Leo was quickly exposed to the different complications and facets of sustainable local tourism by working with community leaders, academics, reserve and nature park administrators, as well as political representatives of the region.
Finally, Leo is also keen on outdoor sports, regularly kayaking and commuting by bike every chance he gets. Leo joined the team Alyra to help us discover Brazil and it’s culture by means of responsible expeditions creating lasting connections between the local communities and our travelers.
